Tranzly vs WPML

The comparison

The comparison as Tranzly wrote it.

WPML has been around for years and is a paid WordPress translation plugin, with yearly plans that bundle a fixed amount of AI-translated words. Tranzly is free on WordPress.org, supports unlimited languages and does not meter words at all: translation runs through your own DeepL or AI account.

Tranzly's strengths

  • The free edition covers unlimited languages and also gives you translated addresses, hreflang and sitemaps.
  • Since there is no word cap, your translation service bills you directly and you skip buying word allowances.
  • Each translated page adds two database queries at most, and because no cookie is set, caching carries on working.
  • Tranzly Pro can bring across WPML's languages, translations and translated texts, and the import can be reversed.
WPML's strengths

  • Each paid plan comes with a yearly quota of AI-translated words, which removes the need for a separate translation account.
  • Alongside DeepL, Google Translate and Microsoft Translator, it provides a translation engine of its own.
Shared ground
  • Every translation is kept as genuine WordPress content that has an address of its own, in both plugins.
  • Machine translation from DeepL, Google and Microsoft is available through either plugin.
Differences
  • WPML offers no free version, whereas Tranzly has a free edition listed on WordPress.org.
  • WPML paid plans come with 22,500 or 45,000 AI-translated words, and the Blog plan has none; Tranzly sets no cap on words.
  • Through 73 tools, Tranzly allows AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT to translate a whole site.
